Self-reflection and evaluation:

Year 12 Film, Television and New Media Auteur Style Production
Please answer each question using complete sentences, including as much detail as possible to justify your responses.
1.  Reflecting on your completed production task:
·      Are you satisfied with the result?  And did it turn out as you had visualized it?

My completed film is how I visualized it from the beginning, and I am happy with the final result. This is one of my favourite tasks in FTVNM as I had a clear vision from the beginning of the planning stage up until the final editing stage. However, along the way there was a very new ideas and ways I could make it more like Tim Burton’s film, this included adding more dream scenes to correlate with his famous scenes or removing some shots that I deemed to be unnecessary.

·      Would you like to change or improve any aspects of your final film (storyline, shots, editing etc.)?

I am happy with the final film, however I would add another aspect to my storyline. I initially was going to have Penelope’s parents and use them for a flashback. During the filming, I decided that I wouldn’t need to use this, as the flashbacks from Charlotte were enough. However, reflecting upon this decision it is possible that these shots would have enhanced the film, adding another element to the overall product. Other from this, I am satisfied with the final edit of my film, Doubt.

·      If you could start the project again, what would you do differently?
I found that this one of my most time-managed and organized projects I have executed during my senior years in FTVNM. However, I believe that it would have been easier if I had more opportunities to film. As I was excited to film at my house, in the cane fields this also became and issue, as I am a boarder and had limited amount of time to travel home with my actors to film. I would have had more time if I changed my location for the filming. This being said, the cane field scenes are my favourite part of the entire film.

2.  Evaluating your production process, respond to the following points:
·      How did you use the planning documents effectively during production? (storyboards, shot lists etc.).
I used the planning documents but I could have possibly used them more effectively in order to understand where I needed to add more (e.g. dream scenes) earlier rather than later. Although storyboards were not on the required task sheet, I used a few to plan out my film and understand the direction I was going to take with it. After I had edited my film, I found that some of my shots were either shorter or longer than indented so I needed to make amendments to my shot list.

·      Were there any problems or difficulties during production and how did this affect your project. (Difficulties may include; shooting, technical, time-management, teamwork, absences or editing etc.);

I found this one of the best productions so I didn’t experience many difficulties in regards to the ones listed above. However, my production would have run smoother if I noticed what shots I was missing at an early stage. I realised this approximately a week and a half before the final was due, this did give me enough time to complete this film but it would have helped me to have it in the shot list earlier.

·      How did other people respond to your rough-edit? Did you use their feedback to make changes to the film?

I showed a few people my rough edit to see if they understood the direction the film was heading in. I was provided with feedback, which allowed me to change what needed to be changed in order for it to run cohesively. After my conference with Mr Andrews, I became aware of other changes I needed to make to my film. This conference consisted of adding more dream scenes, audio and some of my shots.

·      Discuss whether you undertook adequate and detailed reflection to support your work? (Look at your blogs and consider if it looks like a terms worth of work);

I updated my blog when there were changes or updates with my film. Some of the lessons didn’t require a blog post as there wasn’t any changes or amendments made to my film. Some of the lessons required me to watch over my film and change the colour palette or find the correct audio for my film. My blog has been updated when necessary and obtains the required work and my reflections for this production and term.

Updated Shot List:

My shot list has been updated so that it directly correlates with my final production. All shots have been ordered in the order of how they will be placed within the film sequence. The shots were also filmed in this order, except for the dreamtime shots that have been placed both in the order that they are in the film as well as at the end of the shot list as they were shot last.

I will be handing this finalised shot list in on Monday, along with my completed film and production schedule.
